Scholarships

The College of Media is pleased to offer a number of scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College. The scholarships will be applied toward tuition and fees during the 2008-2009 school year, with the funds made available through the generous support of alumni and friends of the College. A Collegewide committee reviews student records, as well as nominations from students, faculty and staff, in determining the scholarship recipients.

To that end, the College committee invites self nominations from students using the form that can be downloaded from this Web site. (See link below.) Print the form, complete it and hand it in to the College of Media Student Services Center, 18 Gregory Hall, no later than 4 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2008.

The college committee will determine scholarship recipients according to the following criteria:

  • ELIGIBILITY. Students must currently be a major in the College of Media and must continue as students during the 2008-2009 school year. Incoming freshmen and May 2008 graduates are automatically considered for scholarships/awards and should not apply. In addition, students must meet the criteria specified by the individual scholarship. For example, some scholarships are earmarked for a specific major in accordance with the wishes of those who donated money for those scholarships.
  • PERFORMANCE. Students should show a record of excellence and commitment in connection with their chosen major. The committee looks closely at grades in classes within the major. It also looks at related activities — internships, work with campus media, involvement in communications-related organizations or clubs, etc.
  • NOMINATIONS. The committee solicits and reviews nominations not just from students, but also from College faculty and staff. (Note that it is not necessary to be nominated by someone else for a scholarship. In addition, nominating yourself for a scholarship does not guarantee that you will receive one.)

A full list of available scholarships is listed below. This list is subject to change without prior notice. Students who nominate themselves will be considered for all applicable scholarships; it is not necessary to specify interest in a particular one. Awardees will be recognized at the College Honors Banquet in Fall 2008. For a list of all Universitywide scholarships, please see the Office of Financial Aid Web site at www.osfa.uiuc.edu/.

Scholarships for international study are also available on the campus Web site at www.ips.uiuc.edu/scholarship.
